Union Budget 2009 and income tax slab highlights

Finance minister Pranabh Mukharjee has presented the union budget for year 2009-10 today. The budget that has more stress for infrastructure development also includes a modified income tax slab.

Main attraction - Income tax exemption limit increased. Income tax exemption limit for senior citizens is now 2.4 lakh, for women it is 1.90 lakh and for all others the income tax exemption limit will be 1.60 lakh.

Budget to be presented on July 6

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will be presenting the General Budget 2009-10 in the Lok Sabha on July 6.

The expectations on the current buget is to maintain the reform agenda and also to continue with spending in social sector.

It would be tough job for the finance minister considering the current world economic condition.

Interim budget and tax slabs 2009-20010 highlights

This is the election year and the acting Minister of finance Mr. Pranabh Mukharjee has presented the Interim Budget. This budget will cover the period till 22 May 2009 when a new government is formed. It will be the responsibility of the new government for formulating policy for the remainder of the financial year.
